Honoring Kent Wosepka
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our colleague, neighbor, and dear friend, Kent Wosepka. Kent was tragically struck and killed by a car while doing something that he loved, riding his bike across the country with his fiancée, Betsy O'Brien, who survived the crash with serious injuries.
Kent was a core leader in Save Chebacco Trails & Watershed and led with kindness, optimism, determination, and fortitude. He was a loving and devoted father to three extraordinary children, and he was deeply proud of them all. Kent served on the boards of Montserrat College of Art and Essex County Greenbelt, The Good Listening Project and Save Chebacco Trails& Watershed. Art and conservation were two of his greatest passions.
He was a frequent spokesperson for SCT&W, presenting our concerns with his articulate and diplomatic style and never losing his sense of perspective and humor, even under stress. In the last few years, Kent immersed himself in his true passions — bicycling, challenging adventures in the outdoors, art and conservation. He was a very talented painter, an interest that he dove into after his career in finance. Kent was incredibly gifted and multi-talented and seemed to excel at whatever he undertook with his usual passion, enthusiasm and commitment.
We are reeling and deeply saddened by his loss and we decided that he would have wanted us to continue with our ‘Trailblazers for Chebacco Conservation’ November event. In honor of him, we designated this event as a celebration of his life. He loved these woods, and he would have had trouble deciding whether to run, bike, or hike during the event. He would have also loved to linger and talk and connect with his neighbors and friends. Our hearts are with his and Betsy's families.
Today, you can honor him by remembering one of his favorite quotes by The Dalai Lama, which was under the sign-off of all his emails:
Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.
