Preliminary Decision to DENY Proposed Development

We are thrilled with the preliminary decision of the Planning Board last night to deny the 133 Essex Street proposed development after a nearly 2-year process of review. We are grateful to the Planning Board for their hard work and for the seriousness and thoroughness of their analysis and deliberations.  Just keep in mind that they will need to vote again on each of the permits to ratify the actual documents that will be submitted to the town.  That is the only vote that is legally binding and should take place on October 11th.

We are also deeply grateful to all of those who volunteered their time, money, and energy to support our efforts to protect this pristine natural habitat and the surrounding watershed area.  We are especially thankful for all of those on the Save Chebacco Trails & Watershed team, all our consulting experts, and all of you in the community who have given your support and expressed your concerns.  We couldn’t have done this without you!  Your support and involvement are what has enabled this land to be protected.

However, our goal has not yet been achieved. Our mission has been from the beginning to protect and conserve this land, the trails and watershed area and to have it purchased by a land trust organization, and we will continue in our efforts to achieve that end. So, please keep your sign up and proud. We will keep you updated!

In the meantime, it is important for all of you to support that effort by continuing to not use the trails on 133 Essex.  We want to continue to show our respect for the owners’ requests and continue to move forward with our process in a positive and considerate manner.

Again, thank you for all your support!  And please consider donating to SCT&W.  MORE THAN EVER, we need your financial support to help pay for all the expenses incurred to make our arguments against the development.  https://www.savechebaccotrails.org/donate
